Watercolor Home Portrait

Instructor: Whitney Tuttle

Students will use watercolors to create an 8x10 portrait of the house of their choice. Each participant will trace a printed photo of their home using a pencil and light table. Group and individual instruction will be given throughout the process. This is a 3 hour class with limited spots. Brushes and paints are included and will be taken home with the student. All skill levels are welcome.

Gingerbread Ornaments

Instructor: Leanne McQueen

In this class you will learn to create and decorate beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments. Students will use clay to create a gingerbread "cookie" that you will pipe decorations onto, using slip as the "icing." Using the tools provided, you can decorate your gingerbread ornaments with any image that you can imagine. Each student will receive 2 prepared clay slabs with which they can expect to make 10 - 12 ornaments.

In this class you will learn to create beautiful handmade christmas ornaments. Using the tools provided, you can decorate your ornaments with whatever personal touch you desire. All materials are provided, however, if you have something at home that would make an interesting or meaningful imprint, such as a family brooch or Grandma's lace doily, please bring it along! The personal touch will turn your ornaments into keepsakes to be cherished. Students will receive 2 clay prepared slabs with which they can expect to make 12 - 15 ornaments.

Christmas Tree Luminary

Up your holiday decorating game by carving your own Christmas Tree luminaries. Your instructor will lead you through using various clay tools and instruments to create interesting textures and designs in your pieces. Students will receive 2 christmas trees to work with.

Pumpkin Carving

Fantasy Creatures

Instructor: Jessica Bledsoe

Come join us for some hand building fun. We will design and create your favorite fantasy creatures, be they dragons, fairies, unicorns, mermaids, or whatever you can dream up! Students will learn how to create a paper armature of your creature to add stability. They will also learn how to manipulate the clay to create interesting textures in order to decorate your form.

Round Robin Art Class

In this new semester class, participants will get the chance to explore multiple mediums in order to find what they love. Over the five month semester students will spend several weeks each in all of the subjects below; in the order listed. 

Paint with Allison Payne - Students will be introduced to new painting techniques and styles inspired by various famous artists. They will leave with a greater understanding of proper brushstrokes, color theory and composition, and a new sense of their own painting styles. 

Drawing with Marilyn Dwyer - A fun approach to drawing! With the basic elements of art as a guide, we will explore several artists work and use a variety of materials. Lots of self- expression!

Clay Handbuilding with Leanne McQueen - In this portion of the class, students will focus on creating fun projects using handbuilding techniques such as coiling, pinching, and slab work. 

Clay Throwing with Leanne McQueen - This class will introduce the pottery wheel and techniques for making successful functional wares.

Landscape Oil Painting

This introductory class is for artists interested in learning how to paint a variety of landscapes in oil. We will begin with a landscape in black and white to explore the fundamentals of value and natural light in painting. Our classes will then focus on in-depth color theory practice as we tackle colorful landscape compositions. This 6-week course is recommended for those who would like to experiment in oil painting and learn more about color mixing and brushstroke techniques.

Slab Building

In this class students will learn several hand building methods to build functional pottery. Methods include slab, slump, pinch, and coil. Students will also learn how to texturize their piece for an interesting design aesthetic. Students can expect to make at least one tray and one bowl.

Pet Plate Sgraffitto

Instructor: Jessica Bledsoe

Students will be given a small leather hard, slab built dessert plate. You will learn how to create a favorite image of your pet through exploring sgraffitto techniques. Students will need to bring a Xerox print, no larger than 4in x 4in of your pet to transfer the image to the plate. All other materials are included.

Sgraffitto

In this class students will receive a small leatherhard cylinder and bowl which they will use to explore this technique. They will learn how to create designs in their chosen pieces using underglazes and sgraffitto techniques. All materials are provided, however, students should come to class prepared with ideas and example images of what they may want to create on their pieces.

Owl Pinch Pots

Join us for an afternoon of fun at Studio 212! This class is a perfect family outing where you will learn handbuilding techniques to create your own sweet owl. You'll learn to build and support the body, as well as work with different tools to create texture and dimension on your pieces. This class is a great introduction on learning how to sculpt animals.

Handbuilding Pottery

In this 6 week beginning class in ceramic hand building, you will learn the clay handbuilding techniques of pinch, coil, and slump. Throughout the course you will use a combination of these techniques to make functional or sculptural objects. Instructor guidance will aid you in using your newly learned skills to create pieces of your own imagination and design. One on one goal setting for each student allows potters of all ages and experience levels to come together in the same class. Fee includes a 25 lb bag of clay, all necessary glaze materials, and both bisque and glaze firing for all pieces you create.

Portrait Oil Painting

This introductory class is for artists interested in learning how to create a portrait, one of the most challenging and rewarding art subjects to study. In the first couple classes, we will create drawings and painting sketches that explore the fundamental anatomy of the face. Our class will then focus on in-depth color theory practice regarding skin tones and lighting. This 6-week course is recommended for those who have some painting experience, whether in acrylics, oils, or watercolors.

Oil Painting

This 6-week course is great for beginners and those who may have experience in oil painting but would like to refine their technique. We will explore new elements of oil painting every week, beginning with value and making our way towards fine art compositions. We will be working from still life displays and reference photos.

Teen Portrait Painting

In this 6-week workshop, we'll learn how to create realistic portraits starting with the proportions and anatomy of the head, then learn how to draw accurately from a reference photo. Our first quick portrait will be monotone to practice value and brushwork. The second portait we'll use a limited color palette to practice skin tones. And finally we'll tackle a large scale portrait in full color, putting our techniques to the test.

In this semester long class, students will create fun projects using hand building techniques such as coiling, pinching, and slab work, as well as building a foundation for throwing on the wheel.  Students be guided step- by- step through all of the processes from how to center, pull a pot, and trim it to decorating, glazing and firing. Clay and all firing and glaze materials included.  The class will conclude with a closing art show in December.
